Visiting Varna? Here are the Top 10 Things you should
2015-09-11
Prior to going on holiday I always like to have a look at Trip Advisor. No doubt most of you have done the same…after all, no one likes to be stuck on holiday with nothing to do (especially if there are children to entertain!).

With a handy voting system and plenty of comments, Trip Advisor is a bit like getting a recommendation from a friend…albeit through the medium of the computer screen.

Here at Blackseavillas.net, we do a lot of work in and around the Varna area and are often asked by our clients, what they should do whilst on holiday. We love giving recommendations but we were curious about what visitors to the city recommended the most.

So, without further ado, here is the Top 10 Things to Do in Varna while you’re visiting:

10. Infinity Wake Park
3rd Pier, +359 88 47 00 166

The Infinity Wake Park gets 5 out of 5 stars for great service, friendly atmosphere and being child friendly too.

Varna has some wonderful beaches and reviewers pointed out that you don’t have to spend all your time on a wake board but the beach was perfect for sunbathing.

9. National Maritime Museum
2 Primorski Blvd, +359 52 63 30 15

For military buffs and those with an interest in the fight for Bulgarian independence, then this friendly museum is well worth a look.

It delves into Varna (and Bulgaria’s) extensive naval history and has a wide range of artifacts on display.

A lot of the information is in English and the staff is friendly, always willing to help.

8. Varna Opera
43 Osmi Primorski Polk Blvd, +359 52 66 50 20

A wonderfully attractive and brightly coloured building, Varna Opera house is well worth a visit to have a look at and maybe grab a coffee at one of the many outdoor bistros.

Often as not, there is a show to see and visitors from all over the world are welcome. Ticket costs are very good value and an evening at the opera in Varna will certainly be something to tell your friends when you are back home.

7.   Ecopark Botanical Gardens
St. Constantine Resort, +359 52 36 19 41

If you’re staying in the St.Constantine or Elena resorts area, then the Ecopark Botanical Gardens are worth seeing.

Offering some peace and quiet from the busy city, the Ecopark is a great place to take the kids out for a picnic (there are BBQ facilities if you want to go all out), or for a stroll in the afternoon after lunch.

The range of trees, plants and flowers will impressive even the most experienced gardener.

6.  The Stone Forest
Varna-Sofia Old Road, +359 52 61 80 11

Often called Bulgaria’s Stone Henge, this almost Martian landscape of stone pillars looks like a huge temple complex left by ancient man.

In fact, it is a natural stone formation that was once at the bottom of the sea floor eons ago.

It’s only 3BGN to enter (about 1.50 Euros) and there are tour guides often doing tours and talks. Although it is recommended to wear a hat; it can get very hot!

5. Aladzha Monastery
Naturpark, Varna, +359 52 35 54 60

Located just outside Varna in the hills, you will find the ancient Aladzha Monastery. Visitors compliment its attractive location within a forest and the serene atmosphere of the area.

Many don’t visit just to see the Monastery, but to also enjoy nice walks in the surrounding woodlands and countryside. Although it must be noted that the Aladzha Monastery is not suitable for those with walking disabilities.

4. The Escape Room
27 Dragoman St, +359 88 870 8096

If sunbathing is starting to get a little boring then a visit to the Escape Room with your friends is definitely in order.

A mixture of brain games and alcohol housed in a rather creepy house, the Escape Room promises a completely different experience.

The staff are very friendly and many visitors note that visiting the Escape Room can be quite addictive as the puzzles are very good.

3. Varna Archeological Museum
41 Maria Luisa Blvd, +359 52 68 10 30

If you love history then the Varna Archeological Museum is simply a must visit. This museum beautifully shows the rich and extensive history of Bulgaria with information displayed in various languages including English.

Well stocked with plenty of unique and interesting artifacts, items on display date back to at least 7,000 years.

Entry is a modest 10 BGN (5 Euros) but worth every cent.

2. Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin
2 Kiril I Metodi Plaza

One of Varna’s most well known buildings; the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin is a beautifully decorated church in a Byzantine style.

Regular church services are still held in the Cathedral and many visitors compliment the calm atmosphere of the Cathedral.

As it is located in one of the main pedestrian zones of Varna, it is advised to visit outside of the main tourist times as it can get quite crowded!

 1. Sea Garden
Situated on the sea front, the aptly named Sea Garden park is packed full of beautiful flowers and plants.

A popular spot with both tourists and locals, you can take a stroll with an ice cream through the park and admire the impressive flower displays.

If you fancy being a bit more active, it’s a great place for a jog with plenty of fresh sea air.

The park is child friendly and on hot days, families will find the park cooler than the city due to the trees. It’s very clean and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the scenery.
