Bulgaria Prepares Golf Development StrategyArticle published on: 2008-02-13
Bulgaria's golf development strategy will be ready by the end of March, Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov announced on Wednesday.
The minister said that the strategy would mark the path for development of the profitable sport, which is still quite unpopular in the country.
Bulgaria's cabinet announced last week it is going to set up a state-owned company to develop and operate golf courses, as the idea had been put forth by Gagauzov.
Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev later put on hold the controversial project "until a full-scale strategy for the tourist sector" was prepared.
Experts point out that Bulgaria is set to prosper from golf tourism, given the success of Spanish and Portuguese golf developments.
