HISTORIC PROPERTY ON BALCHIK’S MAIN STREET. Constructed in 1898, this four bedroom apartment has a wonderful history. It was built by one of the famous Romanian architects, and was the home of one of the ladies in waiting of Queen Maria of Romania. Her heir now sells the house. Perhaps most remarkable, this property’s foundations are deep and leaded, making the house flexible enough to withstand earth tremors. The main entrance to the apartment is from the street, through a beautiful traditional wooden hall, and up a spiral staircase into the apartment itself. On the first floor, a spacious landing leading through to fur bedrooms, a living room (which has a balcony overlooking the street at the front), kitchen, shower room (with toilet) and separate toilet, accessed via a small corridor. The rooms have high, wooden ceilings, and also wooden floors throughout, and the property measures 180 sq. m. in total. (According to the documents it’s shown as only 152sq.m. This was done to save on taxes during the communist times!) There is a small garden at the rear of the apartment, which has its own water supply. Of course, the property has water and electricity, and is connected to the mains sewerage system.
Location and Local Attractions
The house is located on the main street of Balchik, in the heart of the old part, 200m. from the sea and the beach. It is close to local amenities and restaurants, and nice walk along the sea front takes you towards Queen Maria’s Palace and botanical gardens. There is a lovely restored building next to the property. Information was correct at the time of publishing
